Clutch adjustment '37 A

I have a '37 JD A that I am adjusting the clutch. It snaps back nice but disengaging the clutch, lever forward, there is no snap, like the clutch is engaged. But it can't be if the lever snaps back like I said. Any clues?

Do I need to adjust this in the photo below?

Thanks,
Robert

When you push the lever forward you are engaging the clutch, as in making it go. Lever back disengaged. Adjusting the three castellated nuts on the pulley or new clutch discs may help. Ron Mn

That's not where you adjust the clutch, that only adjusts your hand lever position so it won't change much about the issue you are having. Hand lever forward engages the clutch, and rearward to release it. If the pulley moves side to side it is not engaged. Engaged, the pulley is locked to the crankshaft and will not move side to side without also moving the flywheel at the same time.

Borderline clutch adjustment and/or worn over center dogs/collar misalignment may ease into engaged forward position without much snap over felt and then snap smartly on release when pulled to the rear, perhaps you are here?

If you were into the clutch disks or moved the three castellated nuts in any manner, you should probably loosen them all and reset them with a torque wrench after confirming engagement direction, proper clutch operation overall, and then engaging the clutch to use the torque wrench to ensure equal torque on each adjustment bolt.

Loosen that pulley brake adjuster bolt and nut so it's NEVER against the pulley until you figure out which way is which and just what is going on there. That is adjusted after the clutch is confirmed to work as it's supposed to. It looked to me in an earlier post to be set for the way too loose hole condition that you got fixed, it may be adjusted to be way off now and interfering with this process?
