Anything special about this '39 B WICO mag?

This is on a '39 JD B, which belonged to my dad, serial number 71506. It has been parked in a shed for 30 years, and with the exception of the carb and the manifold, most of the tractor is still there. My son will be going into his senior year of high school and he might be wanting to restore this in his shop mechanics class. Anyway, in the last 30 years, the carb and the manifold walked away. while I was getting a replacement carb from a local John Deere "expert", the subject of the mag came up. This guy said that in '39, two mags were offered and he offered to take this one off my hands and would give me the other mag offered for that year in exchange for this one. He was a little mum on why he would do this out of the kindness of his heart, so I'm asking here what is so special about this mag.
If the crappy phone photo doesn't show up, it's a WICO mag with a single, short coil wire from the top of the mag to the mag cap. A description of the other mag offered would be great also. Thanks.

It's complete except one of the side spring hold-down tabs is missing. The hold-down is available from somewhere, I'm hoping?

Should be available. WICO was purchased by standard magneto and that is the name they go by today, they have a eBay store under Standard Magneto Sales Co Inc. Search for 'Wico Magneto Manuals CD' which will trim most of the hits down to a few. For these kinds of one off parts that they may not have listed you'll have to send them an inquiry email to start a dialog with usually. Include the serial number of the mag if possible.

Yes, there were two magnetos available for the 1939B.

Take a look at the diagram below of the Wico AP magneto.

Take a look at the diagram below of the Wico C magneto.

Inspect the magneto on your 39B to determine which one you have.

The Wico C is probably the more "common" magneto.

If you have the Wico AP, then it could be worth more than the Wico C.

I would recommend keeping the one you have if it is a Wico AP.

Hope this helps.
