Remembery finally kicked in. I have a NOS thermostat and nice operating shutters on my '53. Still can't get it over 150 without blocking part of the rad. There is (unfortunately) no way I can 'run the snot out of it in the field' - no field to speak of. Question is ; do I have the wrong spring on the shutters ? Using the one that came with. Thanks in advance. b

None of mine have the shutters,, sounds like some thing is not allowing them to close at the correct temps..

Just checked and they are closed. I spent MANY hours 'tuning' a set of E-Bay shutters, tested the 'Sylphon' with hot water etc. Just wondering how much the return spring plays into the equation. Not crucial because 'Ole John' is retired and living the life in an in-floor heated shop and only comes out a few times a year - like the next couple days when I'm gonna try grading the driveway. Thanks, B P.S. ; does a single front make it a 60N ?
