704 wheel rake

Recently purchased John Deere 704 twelve wheel rake. The turnbuckle and 2 straps(strap part # E95725) are missing. We purchased the turnbuckle from Deere but the strap are NLA. Anyone have one of these that could measure the hole centers for the straps? If someone has a salvage rake, would be willing to purchase straps. If none available can make if have hole center measurement. Thanks, Leon

I hope you have level fields. I bought a new JD 704 back in the late 90's and the tubing at the rear(parts key 3 & 39) broke 3 times while under warranty. After warranty expired I had thicker wall tubing fabricated replacing thin wall tubing and it still broke. I traded 704 for a H&S in '02 and it's still raking after going over 1000's upon 1000's of acres. I determined problem is that rake has no hinge points on rear axles(encircled in blue) such as m H&S rake has. My neighbor converted his 704 to have hinge points on the rear axles and he raked 1000's of acres with it.

Hi Tx Jim, my son grows hay & does customer baling around Tomball,Hockley and Cypress TX. Most of the fields are flat ocassionaly angle across slight ditches to access fields. Know what your talking about as far as rake flexing. Bought rake used and the retanguler tubing at rear has been replaced with thicker wall tubing.Need the straps to hold it together when transporting. Using ratchet strap now. We have a 12 whl Gehl, similar to Deere, as I understand both were made by Tonutti. Also have a 12 whl Massey Ferguson made by H & S that we had converted with a driveshaft to pull round baler behind.

I hope the fields your son rakes are smoother than the ones I rake. As I previously stated 704 built by Tonnutti needs hinge points that it doesn't have. I told JD representative that the 704 rake needed a portable gasoline powered welder attached as an option. I bought my H&S Hi-cap in '02 and it has been very good.
