tried to reply to an old thread got error message so starting a new one.... trying to remove brake drum and the adjustment screw is stuck.... so ... what is the best way to get square head brake adjuster screw loose? the tractor has been sitting 25 years the adjustment screw is rusted and I am afraid of snapping it off.

Salvage yard near by, get another one no that expensive when you figure you might break this one after several hours of trying and end at at a salvage yard anyway.Got to be JUNKERS near you some ware. You might also try HEAT and a candle , as it cools put the candle to the threaded area , be surprised how many times it really works good .

Unhook all those pullers and screw the nut back on the threads. Now take a hardwood block and place on a concrete floor. Next hold the unit nut end down and drop it onto the block. Some really stuck ones take a few tries going higher up as you get the hang of it and even applying some downward thrust when releasing it. I parted out and worked on several tractors in the past and don't recall any that this did not work on.

I agree with Mike. It is not just the threads on the adjuster, but the adjuster pins that must slide to spread the shoes.
Try the block and drop method.

Well Mike M,

Your were spot on.... dropped it 8-12 times... started coming loose... one more time and the housing was up against the nut. now next step is cleaning it good and then ordering new pads... I am hoping since the other brake turns it wont be as near as bad....

thanks again.

Glad I had gloves... what a mess

Isn't it funny how well it works ! Must be something about the weight of the unit helping it along.
I bet it took longer for you to hook up all the pullers on the first go around. LOL !

yep....

was able to get the adjustment pins and adjustment screw out with a lot of PB blaster and propane torch..(don't have oxy-acet).. now working on getting the brake pedal shaft free (out). guess need more pb Blaster and heat... may have to take it to someone who has oxy-acet... I have tried the piece of oak and hammer on nut in but no luck yet.

thanks again for help.

 must have looked at wrong date range... it a 1945 B...
