630 three point hitch spring & PTO

The PTO wouldn't pull the Bushhog anymore so I had to bite the bullet on a new clutch. Right before I left the shop tonight I saw this scene and snapped a pic just because. I like to do things neat clean and orderly. Tomorrow new axle seals go in while it's apart. This baby is going to be expensive!!!

The main question I have is about the healthy sized spring that hooks to the left three point hitch lift arm and goes down to the left side sway block. How do you get that bugger back on? It has been off for many years, ever since the mounted corn picker days that ended in the early seventies. I want to put it back on when the tractor goes back together but I don't know the trick. The three point has worked fine without it but I want it back on just to be original. Jim

Jim, I can't answer your question about the big spring - the spring was gone on ours when we got it in '76. But - it looks like you could clamp the straight upper portion of the big spring with an appropriate sized cable clamp, then devise an adapter of some sort to connect to a shop hoist and stretch it enough to get the bolt in the rockshaft arm. It's not something you'd want flying around the shop! You do know about the small link at the bottom of the big spring?

I'm curious about your wheel weights - never have seen any like that.

I forgot about that link till I looked in the parts book. I do not have the link (A5606R)and Deere does not carry it. Rock Valley doesn't have one. Any ideas about a salvage that might have one? Isn't there a big Deere salvage in North Dakota?

The wheel weights are cement, about 300 lb each.

Jim call Chris Wyman in MN. He had a few
630s he was going to part out last time I
talked to him. 952-913-0181

No problem Jim. Hopefully he has what you need. Your photo reminds me of my bench when I had my 70 pto tore out. A guy HAS to keep things in order, otherwise its easy to get mixed up and make a mess of things. But then some guys can lay in all in a pile on the floor and leave it there for 6 months , and still put it back together with no problems! Mike

Very simple way to do that is find a anchor that you can safely hook the lower end of the spring to and anchor the top to a engine hoist, loader with a chain or even the rockshaft on the tractor and spread
the spring open enough to place several short pieces of flat stock about 3/8 of a inch thick between the coils. When you release the spring it will be long enough to attach when the rockshaft is in the lower
position. Attach the spring, raise the three point hitch and remove the flat stock and you are home free.
