Wife wants a wide front!

This is my wife's slant dash A . I know they didn't come with battery box seat, wife don't like pan seats and I had a '47 model laying out back so I switched the rockshaft housing and all for her . I think it looks nice like this. She also wants a wide front on it, feels safer. Does anyone know of a complete split front bolster ? Getting another tractor with wide front already is out of the question.

I think so too. It's not a show tractor , gets used around the place for various duties and plows every fall. I have a Schwartz wide front that was on a 60 , I plan to put that on if I find a split bolster.

Wellll, since you asked, I thought I wanted a wide front on my tractor too, found my model with wide front, bought it, luckily I kept my narrow front tractor. Could not believe the difference... it took 40 acres to turn that thing around! PLUS stiff arms every time I wanted to turn. PLUS, where I used to steer in close to things, with the narrow, I could not even get close anymore. Hated that wide front. Sold it quick, very happy with my narrow. Learnt me a lesson.

Wheels are in for trailering and plowing . I don't think her requests are that big of a deal I guess. When I was a kid we had a '51 A with Schwartz wide front, it turned fine I thought. Better than the factory type anywhow. That one had Behlen add on steering.

When I saw the thread title, I thought "Gee, that's odd, my wife has been building a wide rear for several years now". Good thing she never reads this...

Will a split pedestal fit on your frame? I thought the pressed frame tractors had the split pedestals. Good luck with you project. Ron Mn

I don't see any differences between the two, there is a guy close to me that has a hand cranker with split pedestal. Was that way when he bought it several years ago . I tried talking him out of it but to no avail lol .

The Schwartz will turn shorter and quicker. An A with a factory front takes the whole south forty to turn around.

A wide front end is a false sense of security . if you are on a road bank , by the time the tractor tips over to hit the stops on the axel its too late ! Just my 2 cents

BigboreG i have a 1946 A with JD wide front on it will sell at a decent price call at 605 270 1844 just the wide front tractor is stuck
