water in fuel tank

I have a 1957 JD620. In the last couple years I am putting up with an excessive amount of water in the fuel tank. Each time the separator bowl is almost all water. I have to empty it several times. I keep the tank nearly full to minimize air in the tank that can condensate. It has been humid with the monsoons, but I believe the problem is still there when it has been dry for a long period. I use 88 midgrade fuel with ethanol which is all I can get. I know ethanol absorbs water, but I don't have this problem with my 1946 JDB. I have never seen water in its separator bowl. I've added "HEET" to the tank, but it doesn't seem to get all of the water.

Any suggestions as to what's happening or how I can minimize the situation?

Adding 'Heet' is adding alcohol, poor choice. You might be better off draining the tank when stored or not likely to be used. HTH

I had this problem on my 620. It was away from home and I believe someone either put water in it or left the fuel cap loosened. The only good remedy is to drain the tank the best you can and add some fresh gas WITH ethanol to absorb what is left. Then it will be fixed. Otherwise, you will be chasing your tail. Mike

Does it sit outside? Perhaps there is a rust hole in the top of the tank allowing water to enter.

I was told an empty tank will breathe air in and out every day, and that will admit humid air then it will condense moisture. Every day. I was told you are better off to keep a tank filled up, the volume of air breathed in and out will be minimal. What I was told, but I don't really actually know.

If there is a standoff pipe above the bottom of the tank you could have a lot more water in the tank than you realize (gallons). Can you get a siphon to the bottom of the tank and remove most of the water? Park on an incline as needed to get the siphon to the lowest point of the tank. After the excess water is removed it should be similar to your B.
