1948 John Deere B and 45 series 1 loader hook-up?

I have a 1948 John Deere B and a 45 series 1 loader. When I purchased the tractor last August, the loader was hooked up to a front mounted live hydraulic kit and plugged into an external reservoir. I am currently attempting to plug the loader directly into the B's powr trol in the traditional manner. However, after two unsuccessful attempts at hooking the loader up, I am at a loss for direction. Does anyone have a diagram or photos that they could post showing how to hook the loader up. Currently, I have two hydraulic tee adapters threaded into couplers on the tractor's powr trol. From these tees I have run what I hope are pressure and return lines to the loaders double acting cylinders. What could I be doing wrong?

Sincerely,

Peter Markel

Are you SURE you power-troll works ? If it had a live pump added at the gov. they remove a gear from the pto pump. Also your pto has to be turning for it to work. But you may already know this ?

Pic: from Predelivery service instr. Use side plugs on Powr-Trol... / If live power pump was not plumed into Powr-Trol , there's good chance PTO pump was left in tack ; ... 45 loader is NOT made to be used with double acting cly's [down pressure] oil in return back of cly. is to keep Powr-Trol supplied with enough oil....

I have heard of the single/double acting cylinder argument before on model 45 series 1 loaders and wonder why people say these cylinders are single acting.

I have a model 50 tractor with this same model 45 series 1 loader and I can definitely lift the front of the tractor with loader down pressure. To me that means these cylinders are DOUBLE acting.

When you take one apart and look at how the packing's are made they are definitely made for one way operation. Not to say they won't lift a light load the other way.

hank you and yes I did know about the PTO involvement in hydraulic function. However, I dont know anything about the gear removal. When I purchased the tractor the gentleman had the loader fed into the live hydraulic pump and a one way cylinder hooked into the powr trol in the back (he had made a log carrying contraption which I removed with haste). The cylinder worked at the time but I don't know if the powr trol has been altered.

The pump was not being fed by the powr trol to my knowledge. As I recall it was being supplied oil by an external reservoir mounted on the right hand side of, and about level with, the tractor's seat. With that configuration, you believe they may have left the gears alone?

(quoted from post at 05:51:23 07/04/15) Yes: good chance Powr-trol was used separate to run one way cyl.
Is there any reason why the loader should not be run out of the two plugs on the face of the powr trol rather than out of the side of the powr trol as the diagram shows?
