4020 Power shift PTO brake

Here is a fix that I just made on a 4020 Power Shift PTO brake, it sheared the anchor pin and it let the piston spin in the bore ( a common problem), It cupped the piston bore out to where it wouldn't seal. I glued a Ready sleeve into the housing to renew the bore and then turned the piston down to fit the new bore, I re-located the anchor pin and used the shank of a grade 8 5/16" bolt, it worked out well,, I thought I would share the idea with you guys...

Gonna' have to remember that when I dig into the early 4020, it's been spinning for a long time. The late 4020 that you're doing some work on the brake still holds.

The only thing I would question is the 5/16 bolt not being as hard as a needle bearing pin like the original .

I thought about that for a bit, and I had a few of the original pins, so I put one in the vise and hit it with a hammer,, it snapped like glass,, I put a grade 8 bolt in the vise and I beat it hard to get it to bend a bit,,it was much tougher,, so that made my choice. Knowing what breaks them is shutting the PTO down while a piece of equipment is in full speed, I think the grade 8 bolt is a better choice..

No the late 4020 had the lining peeled off the piston, but the anchor pin was still okay, the PTO clutch had some burnt and warped disc in it so that was causing the PTO clutch to drag, and then wore the brake out.. I could "hear" the brake piston wobbling when you turned the PTO on in the one in the picture, I have seen them wear the housing very badly, in those cases I turn out a bushing that has the original bore size and coat it with JB weld and drive it in tight..
