LA throttle Response

So I have been prepping my LA for a repaint and found the governor wasn't responding (only idled). I took governor apart and cleaned pivot point which seems to have helped immensely. Now, I have the problem that when I advance the throttle very far the thing just dies. It runs great at idle and if I only increase the throttle a couple of notches on the throttle lever then it will pick up some rpms, but pull it back 75%+ of the length of the rod and it stalls out. Doesn't matter if you quickly close the throttle back down it doesn't recover. Also, I tried locking the brakes and putting a load on the engine by putting it gear and slowly letting off the clutch and it lugged down, sounded like it wanted to die, but when I pushed the clutch back in it didn't recover. I don't know where to look now. The inside of the governor is completely cleaned out of all that old thick gooey oil stuff. Also, how in the world do you set the length of the bolt that has a jam nut on the bottom of the governor (lower left corner). I saw some mention that it was critical to the operation, but can't figure out how.

Thanks.

That bolt is likely for the fast idle max. speed of the engine. I don't recall what it is to be off the top of my head.
Do you have the air cleaner off since you are prepping ? If so put it back on and try it again. They will not run right without some restriction. Those are fixed jet carbs.( no adjustment) on the load side so if it still does not run it may have plugged up passages.

On the TSX85 I don't see a load screw to adjust. I only see an idle screw. It should be clean as it was just rebuilt by a well respected guy in my area.

Ditto Mike M. Hook up the air cleaner then try again and see what happens. I adjusted my LA without the air cleaner on, it ran but not great. Then I hooked up the air cleaner and it wanted to run like you are describing. I had to adjust everything again with the air cleaner on. I also had a little blockage in the fuel tank causing an issue.

Put air cleaner on and retry ! I know 100% for fact it makes a difference ! BTDT and should make up a tee shirt. Mine gave me fits until I figured that out. If it acts lean the restriction caused by the air cleaner will richen it up.
