John deere 45 combine

The early 45 combines were available with the 145 diesel as used in the 2010 tractor. The 145 gas and diesel for the 45 was replaced with the 165 gas which was never offered in a tractor. In 1967 the 165 gas was replaced with the 180 gas which was also used in the 2020 tractor and 2510 tractor. The later 45 combines were not offered from the factory with a Diesel engine, although some have been converted. Our 45 has a 219 diesel retro-fit.

No, I've only ever seen the diesel in the early 45 operators manual and parts catalog. Obviously very few were produced and far less have survived the test of time and years of wear. The 145 wasn't good when it was new so it surely isn't doing so well 55 years later... The 165 engines seem to have survived due to the fact that they were cast iron bore rather than that silly composite sleeve design.

I had an opportunity to by a diesel 45 about 10 years ago. It was in southern MN. Knew it was rare but passed it up in favor of a diesel hydro 55.
