JD 2010 with JD 50 backhoe

I have a JD 2010 with loader + JD 50 backhoe sitting at my yard, and considering fixing it as I need to do some digging around the property. The tractor has the gas engine. The previous owner said in passing that "it needs a new motor", but did not give any details. The exhaust is broken so rain over the years has likely entered the engine, on top of whatever other problem there was.

The main piston on the backhoe has some very light pitting, would that be a big deal for the seals? I"d also like to know the digging depth and weight of this JD50, if anyone knows the spec. What other tractors does it fit, apart from the JD 2010?

Im trying to decide if it"s worth embarging on a restoration project to put the machine back to service, any thoughts welcome.

I would skip both for something better. The JD 2010 tractor is expensive to fix and you do not have much when your done. The JD 50 hoe is not much better as it has the vane motor type of swing. They do not have much swing force. If your in a bank and need to swing dirt up hill they may not do it. Forget about using the side swing to backfill with it just is not going to happen.

For what you will spend on parts alone to fix the JD 2010 you can buy a running machine.
 
what tractor / backhoe combo would you recommend, that can dig to 8'-9' feet? I'm on 10 acres and need a good all-rounder for working on the garden and around the yard. Also need to dig around the house foundation for repairs.
 
A back hoe , loader type tractor isn't a garden tractor and vise versa , that said a 301 or 300 in a deere or look at a case 480-580. Your pocket will determine what you bring home.
 
That JD 50 hoe was made for the JD 2010 and 1010 industrial tractors. It really will not fit many models without a lot of modifying. IT is best to forget that hoe.
