60 MFWD steering finished

I have the steering finished, it's 4 revolutions of the steer wheel lock to lock, the hood is on for last time.. She will be in the July 4th parade next week. The transfer case is about to take shape, I have decided to go with a Rockford style clutch for the disconnect instead of the collar shift, it will make for a smoother engagement, this will latch over center with a lever to the left of the dash and will marry up with the engine clutch lever in looks..

It really looks like it belongs on there ! Funny how times change. Could you imagine if they tried selling them back then ? Just like 4 door 4 wheel drive dully trucks. Was a time you could not even buy one now that's all you see !

Must just be the camera angle as it sure looks toe'd out ?

Measured up 1/16" in..the tread is set for 3X14 plow,24 1/2" center to inside of tire, this is the narrow most setting, and is seems a bit too narrow to me,,I will know more when I hook to the plow..I plan on plowing an pulling a 30 combine at the Rantual show..

Back when we had wide (36") rows, and four bottom plows, we could get away with the same wheel setting for plowing and row crop work. We used to have the front tires measure inside to inside the same as the rears. Then after trying it once with the front tires centered with the rear tires, I decided I didn't need to have the front tire scrubbing the furrow wall anyhow. The inside of the front tire really showed some wear. Rear tires have been ruined around here from running in the furrow. Happened to Dad once. I don't miss that at all!

Those inside the grill lights are great. Another inspiration from the mind of Tim S

I found a clutch of a 4cyl engine that ran a oil well pump unit, it runs in oil, will be just right to fit my gear box.

Honestly when will you be taking ordres for a 60 MFWD or 60C? I have a 2550 I am going to be getting rid of and need to replace it with something!

You can take something like that to a show, and people will swear their Uncle Joe had one just like it.

That's it ? That's all you got done this week ? Maybe 'Highway Lag' from your hollydae. Nice work ! Real clever stuff. Can't wait to see the 'drive' connection and how you worked out the ratios. Best, b

Mark,
You are so on target. I was waiting in line at the Gilmore Museum show for the parade yesterday with the model 42 combine when a fellow came up to me and told me that John Deere still makes new small pull type combines for the Amish Folks. Sure would like to see some.

Tim,
Your engineering and fabricating skills are truly phenomenal. You never cease to amaze us all. Another "Good Job",

Tim,
Have a question on the rear axle from this Combine.. That you are using on the frt. of the 60.
Is this a conventional drive axle or does it have clutch packs on the axle gears to make it a limited
slip diff?? ( Not knowing ) much about the Combine drive asy on the header end or drive axle.. And I
got to wondering if John Deere used a Posi Trac axle in the rear of the combine..

So by now you've figured out why I'm asking while turning sharp & binding issue that Might occure
on your 60 If it's a Posi drive axle.. I don't know what Combine it came from to look at a illustration
of the steering drive axle. I would think it might work easier & less binding if it was NOT a Posi Drive.

All good questions.. but your on the wrong track...it is not off a combine, it's off a tractor, and it has a differential in it, it will be shaft driven and there will be a clutch to engage it and to also absorb any shock..

There is one thing that is for sure, when this project has the last little bit of
finishing touchs done. Anyone who who has any love or passion for tractors of any color
& of any age will stand back & say WOW , well done. The insight & knowledge Tim has between
his ears is amazing. Seeing this & how well it looks & I have this sneaking suspiscion it
going to operate as well as the crawler does. He is a asset to this site & to the AG industry.
I'm trying to think of something he might be able to do well?? Maybe Golf? I bet there are
day's he can understand a Woman?

No Golf.. and "no one" can understand women...These kind of projects are fun,,and make your mind work...
