3020 gas locked up, engine swap?

I have the chance to buy a '70 3020 gas
that the engine was ran out of oil. Was
wide open when it happened . I pulled the
pan, looked it over, the motor is toast. My
question is, I have a 4045 power unit
engine. . .how much work involved with
swapping the 4045 in? Frame rails? Anyone
here done it?

It will take a special flywheel housing adapter because 4045 won't bolt up to 3020 clutch housing. What type trans? 3020 gasoline with powershift trans are fairly rare.

I'm in the middle of a 3020 gas 239T engine swap. Is your 4045 a powertech? My understanding is the powertechs are just a little bit different than the older engines. Anyway, I used the flywheel housing adapter and front pump mount from a 4030. The frame rails have to be modified, a spacer needs to be welded in and new holes drilled for the front bolts, in the back new plates need to be made and welded so the frame can bolt to the adapter plate. Last night I was working on re-drilling the flywheel for the 239 crank pattern and some way to hold a pilot bearing. Didn't finish that part yet, then I'm going to work on fitting the turbo on a modified manifold so I can keep the dual hydraulics. Then I need to figure which parts I need to connect the front pump, have to change the water pump because the one I have sits too high.

It is not the easiest of projects, I'm not doing it because I need it, I'm doing it as a challenge.

It's not a powertech. Jim its a syncro.
Thanks for the great info! I too would like
to see pics of what your doing.

How toasted? Rods are no problem. Hopefully main bearings have not spun in the block? Cranks can be welded back up.
The Waterloo four and six cylinder share little to nothing in parts , dimensions and bolt patterns vs the 300 series Dubuque/Mannheim/Saran engines .

Mains spun in the block. Crank is really
bad, the tractor was grinding feed when it
went, it was unattended but the guy said he
heard the grinder slow down and come to a
stop. He was in bin sweeping and couldn't
get out in time. 10,000 plus hrs .

Makes a Murphy Switch on every machine a good idea.
Kind of a shame but I don't see how to make the project worth while unless somebody likes a challenge.
