4020 John Deere hydraulics

I put a GB loader on a 4020 that came off a 4010. The loader has it's own 2 spool control valve and just plugs into the remotes. I am going to plum it into the hydraulic system I just wanted to try the loader out. Right now when you try to run the loader you loose power steering. If I put the handle that runs the remote back into neutral my power steering comes back. I am pretty sure it's a closed center valve but will check and see I just wanted to see if there was anything that would cause that.

My guess is hyd problem is FEL valve is open center or is convertible type(open to closed or vice-verse) that has a blown internal seal. Simple test is remove male coupler tip from FEL valve return hose and aim hose into tractor hyd filler hole then activate SCV control lever. With FEL levers in neutral no oil should exit return hose. If oil exits hose check FEL valve.

A YT member will probably be along to tell you the downfall of operating FEL from SCV's although JD engineers approved & provided hose kits doing that very thing.

If you decide to connect FEL direct to tractor here's some how to photos. Photos with hyd filter housing in it are 2 different return hose options.
