Some time ago, I was brush hogging with my 1951 B and had been working it pretty hard. Suddenly the engine started cutting out, blowing smoke, and spitting oil out the exhaust. I figured something major broke. I took it to a fellow who does a fair amount of restoration (though doesn't specialize in JD's).
He started it, ran it a little, and checked the compression on both cylinders. They checked at 100 and he said 110 was all they had new. No water in the oil. So he didn't have any solutions.
I've had it out and ran it a few times since and it starts without smoke and seems to run fine until it gets really warmed up and a little bit of a load. It'll start cutting power and a little smoke. I stop and put it away.
I still suspect it needs an overhaul, but if it's something simpler, that would be great too.
Thanks,
Steve
