Mechanic Needed for 1949 BW

My brother and I have a 1949 John Deere BW located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. We acquired the tractor after our father passed away this past winter. We look forward to enjoying the tractor to continue our father's legacy. Unfortunately, what was a perfectly operational tractor when our father was alive is now a machine with an engine that turns over but refuses to fire after a long winter and spring in storage.

My brother and I live in Arizona, so distance from the tractor and a general lack of mechanical knowledge do not allow us to work on the tractor to get it running.

We are looking for a two-cylinder John Deere mechanic to meet us in Minneapolis sometime this summer to do some troubleshooting and bring Dad's beautiful old girl back to life.

Can you help? Please call 6zero2-4two1-82one6

I do not mean to interrupt someone else's deal, but if nothing works out, there surely must be a JD dealer in Minneapolis area, probably more than one, who could advise you.

Hes already asking for help, he surely don't need a new generation MC to make it worse than it already is. Dealer ships have no 2CYL MC,s today that's why this SITE is here.

Our oldest tech has been here 40 yrs. We conpletely rebuilt a GP last winter. First one of those for me. Between him, another guy and myself we keep the bangers in this area going. For the guys that want to pay high labor rate anyway.

Hey BB(G),Nice to hear that , just BUSTING on you and fellow here never finished HIGH SCHOOL 9th grade just finished 51 years, RETIRED can rebuild Power shifts in his sleep and Memory most PART NOS> Now doing it out of his own shop , MONEY UP FRONT or no REPAIRS done.Really SQUARE shooting FELLOW. PS: There getting FEWER.

Yes they are getting fewer. I try to pass on what I know, in hopes that people will keep it going. My grandad taught me at at early age how to work on them, he was a pro at the 2 cylinders. But you are right, most if the new techs DONT want anything to do with the old stuff.

Yes, I did consider John Deere dealerships and contacted the two that are each 30 miles away from the tractor. They will troubleshoot the engine -- at $100/hour in their shop, after I spend $150 roundtrip for transportation at the current loaded-mile rate (I don't have my own towing vehicle/trailer). Only one dealership has a mechanic with two-cylinder experience.

That's $250+ I'd rather give to someone like you guys for hands-on guidance. My brother and I are trying to make connections with knowledgable tractor enthusiasts.
