Decided to try a electronic ignition my 52 G. Got a pertronix ignition, hot coil, 8 mm plug wires. What should I gap the spark plugs to? Plugs are autolite 3116. Tractor just used to drive in tractor drives and parades. Thanks.

If you have an elec switch with a high voltage coil and quality plug wires and distributor cap, I would run at least a 0.030 gap and even up to 0.045 or wider.

You can run a pretty wide gap with electronic ignition. However, with the 3116 plug it's hard to open them up much more than .035" and keep the gap parallel. With different plugs (such as 14mm with adaptors) you can run upwards of .050". Mike

I ran 5 of these systems and I don't think it matters about the gap other than normal...say .30-.35 also I don't think the type plug made any difference as the voltage was around 40,000 very hot system. I could run water over distributor and tractor would start. I could foul the plugs with choke and the ignition would clear the plugs. Can't say enough good about the electronic...
