John Deere 70 steering wheel for John Deere B?

I have a 1948 John Deere B with a 45 series 1 loader. Obviously without power steering, it's a bit difficult to use with a heavy load in the front. I thought I might replace the current steering wheel (which has an outside diameter of approximately 16-17") with a John Deere 70 steering wheel with an outside diameter of 20" in order to change the steering ratio. However, none of the 20" steering wheels list the John Deere B as a compatible tractor. With that being said, the specifications for each appear to be nearly identical. Is there any reason why I shouldn't try a 20" wheel with the B?

I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think your shift lever will clear the bottom of the larger steering wheel.
I went thru the same thing for several yrs, then upgraded to a 520 with power steering.

Perhaps you don't want to modify your tractor, but if you can find a Char-Lynn power steering kit, it'll steer like a new tractor!

Take a look at the photo below.

The steering and worm shaft appears to be 1 inch in diameter on the Model 70.

The shaft with worm, sector, and nut on the Model B appears to be 7/8 inch in diameter.

Sorry, batteries were dead on camera so no photo of the Model B.

Hope this helps.

Allright, well thanks everyone for the feedback. I wanted to make sure before I wasted my money. I'll stay clear of my steering wheel idea...
