1020 bush hog capability question

I am a new owner of a 1020 and wanted to ask those of you that own these what is the largest bush hog it will handle for mowing pastures.

I'm not talking North Georgia mountain food plots, I mean gentle rolling hill or basically level pastures. Is 6 foot the max or would it handle an 8 footer?

we had a 5 foot bush hog cutter behind a 1120 and 2155 for years -both basically same HP at 1020 - depending on length of grass you are cutting - the 5 foot was a good load on my tractors - a 6 foot would have been better as it would have been the same width as the rear tires, but they need more power than 45 hp - 5 foot would be the maximum width I would recommend.

Will not handle 8 ft And if you are talking three point hitch the frt end won't stay on the ground. I bushhogged for 25 years and started out with a 1020 diesel with a
6 ft bushhog Would handle in light work but if heavy would have to slip over a litle Frt end a little light with 6 ft,

Thank all of you for the info. I have a little 4' but wanted to put the tractor to work doing pastures for other folks and wanted to know before I bought a bigger one. Mine just happens to have 3 weights on the front but they're not the suitcase type, they bolt on and have slots in em'. I've got a Ferguson 35 now that NEEDS some weight in the front most of the time.

I use a 6' John Deere 616 on my 1020 sometimes and it is a pretty good load. The weight of it as much as the power it takes to run it. I prefer to use my 4010.

7 plus horse power per foot is a minimum I like more if
it's available. This said your tractor will pull it but
may have to go slower than you want to travel . After
thought if you are buying used cutters try a 6' if you
don't like it you should be able to sell and not lose much
.

The tractor I'm picking up comes with a 6' if I want it for $500 extra and says it is like new although I haven't seen photos of the bush hog. I can either leave it or trade it off for a 5' if it proves to be too much of a load. There are a lot of 5 footers round these parts in Craigs list on any given day. We'll see. Thanks fellers!
