Model 60 transmission oil level

The operators manual states capacity is 6 gallon and that the "lubrication of the transmission is entirely automatic. The differential and final drive gears are partially
submerged in transmission oil and.......carry oil up into the transmission. The 6 gallon gear oil supposedly will fill the reservoir right up to the filler hole located
just in front of the PTO housing. 1.5 quarts are then added to the first reduction gear reservoir.

Now the question. Approximately 2 gallon of the 6 will eventually make its way into the transmission and first reduction gear housing. This will put the level 2 gallon
below the filler hole. With a closed system and no leaks do you then just forget about the levels until the next gear oil change? I think the 60 I purchased has been
overfilled by someone who checked the level by looking at the filler hole, saw it low, then filled it back up to the hole level.

If the trans is over-full, keep an eye on the Power-Trol..

If that level goes down AND the trans level goes UP, you know where the oil went...

Forget about what someone else did in the past and follow the operators manual.

Before you put new oil in you might want to take off the rockshaft housing and then take out the pto shaft to check the shaft seals. If they're bad Powr-Trol oil will leak into the differential housing and raise the oil level which might be the cause of the "over full" situation you see.

There seems to be some confusion here. Do as the manual says. I'm not sure where you are getting the "two gallons" in the reduction gear from? The manual said 1.5 quarts, that is a little less than half a gallon.

As for the posts about the PTO seals leaking power trol oil in, if this is a 60, that is not the case. A 60 has (usually) a live PTO behind the transmission, and not a power trol pump. The A, B, and G had a power trol pump in back that could force power trol oil into the transmission, but not a 60.
