power steering bind on 730d

the power steering is binding on my 730d. i have a power steering manual and have tried a couple of things but no luck yet. it mentions the rear part of the steering to check but it doesnt even tell you where its at, i assume its at the rear. but further instructions would be nice. do i need to take the hood off? any ideas would be appreciated.

Dunno WHAT they would mean by the "rear" part of the steering.

Binding can be cause by the steering worm and sector gears being set too close (not shimmed properly), or issues down below in the vane motor. If that has been gone though, and nothing is broken or damaged inside, the manual should show how to loosen the large, long bolts through it and tap the housing around a bit to alleviate binding there.

Binding can also be caused by a worn/chipped/damaged "cam and pin" next to the worm, in the mechanism that operates the steering valve.

More info on that can likely be found in the archives here.

My 60 would turn right perfectly but bind turning left. Replaced cam and pin in the actuator and steers good now. Hold your breath when you buy the cam from Mother Deere! Seems I remember it was $150+ for a part the size of a half dollar-ouch!
