head gasket 1952 A

7500# class. received my manual and it says to use white lead or equivalent to the threads of the head bolts if they were removed.
all but one of the studs came out. where do I get white lead? and there are 2 torque specs/125#.. and 150# for the black studs. mine look pretty black. it also says to soak gasket in oil before installing. the gasket I got has a metal facing on one side of it so I am assuming that it would go against the cylinder block???? the head is still at the machine shop but am trying to do some homework before it gets back. any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

That one confused me years ago too. Use some good pipe dope, not tape, but the semi-liquid type. That is all it is for is to seal the threads.

Those late A'S and 60 models have a tendency to crack the blocks below where the studs mount. Usually a crack right above ring travel on the top side on the cylinder wall. Good luck.
