4 Bolt Front Ends, Model A versus Model B

Hello! I have heard that 4 bolt front ends are quite rare on unstyled Model B tractors. Does the rarity apply to unstyled Model A tractors as well? Thanks!

I wouldn't say they are rare, but are getting scarce since they are the early ones.
Seems as if all the time people in the John Deere business are thinking of ways to make unspecting people think their tractor is worth mega bucks.
Some people are so caught up in the hype, "Hey I got a brass tag and a four bolt B John Deere and its more valuable than yours!""

To answer your question, yes, 4 bolt B's are the really early ones. There were 2042 of them made. Deere soon realized that 4 bolts weren't strong enough and went to 8 bolts to hold the pedestal on. The 4 bolt B's are much more desirable.

However, the unstyled A's stayed with 4 bolts through the whole production, beginning in 1934 and going through the end in 1938. The pedestal on the A probably was bigger and therefore didn't break as easily, and thus wasn't a problem that needed a fix.

(quoted from post at 17:40:19 05/29/15) All unstyled A's were 4 bolt. Nothing rare there.

Great, thank you all for the info. I THOUGHT that was the case, but I have one other unstyled A that has an 8 bolt front end, so just curious! Thanks gents!

As a matter of fact all unstyled A's were not 4 bolt. The AN,ANH, AW, and AWH model A tractors had 8 bolt pedestals. the narrow front A tractors did all come with 4 bolt front ends as far as I know. I add this just to help get the correct info out to anyone interested.

That makes sense Bob. The other unstyled A I have was originally an AN (It was retrofitted with a homemade widefront somewhere along the way). Thanks for the info!
