How compatible are JD carbs across models? Specifically, will a DLTX-72 from an all-fuel A work on a 38G with a DLTX-24? Forgive me if this is a stupid question.

I don't know about the DLTX 72, But I do know that a DLTX 71 will work in place of a DLTX 51 (big nut carb) on a styled G. They actually run pretty good that way.

YES it will. Unless you are worried about "correct police" you'll never know the difference. It's the same size throttle blade and still has two needles to adjust fuel:air mixture.All you need.
