Power Lift to a Power Trol unit

I want to update my 48 JD B from the power lift, foot pedal activated, to a Power Trol unit activated with the hand lever. Can I just swap out the units or do I need to also swap out the whole rear end cover with the rock shafts, seat, pto and all ? My tractor has round axel housings and the new unit is off a B with square axel housings, if that makes any difference. Also I'd appreciate any advice on what to look out for while making the swap.

If you own both tractors, the switch is very easy. If the donor tractor is not owned by yuo, make sure to get all the bolts with the power trol box. If memory serves, a couple are different length.

Otherwise, they are interchangeable. I took a valve box from a 51 A and put it on a 36 A 15 or so years ago.

It's a quick job. Just be sure to note where the long bolts go. The bottom one is a stud it will help you guide the box into place. Also be sure to get the spring in BEFORE you put the box into place. JD still carries the gasket for the powertrol box, they are inexpensive.

The gasket between the Powr-trol valve box and rockshaft housing is A1447R. It's available from Deere for about $16 or you can make one from 1/8" sheet cork.

I put one from a 70 on my 46, just watch that you don't loose the small valve at the bottom of the unit. And if you get one from a 50 60 or 70, you can put the lever on the right side, keeping it from going under your jacket when you get off the tractor.

Thanks everyone for your comments thus far!! Cole in Mo, Gee I never imagined putting a 60 or 70 Power Trol on a B. I like the advantage of having the lever on the right side. Is there any other advantage of using that model unit ?
