1976 8430 value

My Dad had a 1976 8430 John Deere tractor when he died. Tractor is mine and I have no use for it now. I am going to sell it. Don't know the value. Tractor is in good mechanical condition. Dad spent a lot on this tractor in 1994. Tractor has 5800 actual hours. We bought it new.

These are some of the things that were done to it:

Motor overhauled
Head redone
Hydraulic pump replaced
New clutch
Bearings and seals on all 4 axles
New radiator
Probably more, but this is all I can think of.

Tractor probably doesn't have 200 hours on it since the above work was done.

Tractor needs A/C fixed and a cab kit.

I just put new batteries in it. Starts and runs good.

I realize the tractor is almost 40 years old and is not the most desirable tractor to be had, but it would make someone some cheap horsepower.

Help me with what it is worth. Thanks.

One factor on value is if the engine overhaul involved updating to a 50 series engine. 30 were not so great, 40 series slightly better.

Agreed that having a 50 series engine will add a lot to the value. How is the rubber and does it have 20.8x38 tires or something smaller. Some areas the 8XX0 articulates were ordered without 3 pt hitch and/ or PTO. Does the AC work? Hi-Lo been upgraded? The tractor could be worth anywheres from 7,000 dollars to nearly 20,000 dollars depending on the questions I mentioned.

I.m afraid it's not worth much, around here it wouldn't get past $7500 at an auction in my area..

You sure you don't have a use for it. A 8430 is one of those tractors that is more valuable to the owner as a "just in case" or backup tractor vs selling it and getting almost nothing. Value of course differs in from one end of the country to the other but in my area 8630s do good to get past $5,000.

There aren't some grandkids who are gonna be trying to track down Grandpa's old tractor some years from now are there? Any sentimental value to somebody else in the family?

No one has any interest in farming or the tractors. It was to go to my son, but he passed away 2 years ago. He has 2 daughters, my granddaughters, who are 6 years old.

I have a 4020 my dad bought new and a 730 my grandpa bought new that I will hold back. The 8430 needs to be put to work. I only start it a couple of times per year. Usually someone gets stuck and I pull them out.

I have dealt with the thought of selling this for a while. As we get older all these old tractors become burdens to keep them going. Sometimes there just comes a time when decisions have to be made. Thanks for all the input.

I'd have to agree with Tim. That's about what I see them bring at consignment sales around here.

I might be interested if not too far away. Where are you? It would be good to pull a disc with. I don't farm enough to justify A big new 4x4. I just told my wife I would like to have an older one. I kind of had a 7520 in mind, but this would be better. I need to pull a 20 ft disc.
