blown head gasket

1952 A I went to the steed pull yesterday and I believe I blew a head gasket.at the end of the pull, it started pouring white smoke out the exaust. hurried back to the trailer and shut it down. after letting it cool down some, I open the petcocks on the head and the one on the clutch side poured coolant non stop. did not start it again just pushed it on the trailer. how difficult is it to replace the head gasket? those manifold bolts look like the could be difficult to get out. any suggestions or things watch out for

Carlyle is correct, no need to remove the manifold to pull the head. On some it takes some creative twisting and turning to get it out of the frame rails, but it can be done.

Take the generator and bracket off I'm one piece, that will give you more room. I wouldn't worry about the manifold. . .

thanks for the input. I am gonna call the local machine shop dude that's familiar with john deere and see if it might be an option for him to do, because I figured I should get the head checked and the valves while its off. may be to costly to have him do it though and i'll have to it. I would need to get the manifold off to take it to the machine shop either way, wouldn't I??? he probly wont be open till tue.

I have always taken them to the machine shop with the manifold on the head. He has the equipment to remove the studs from the head so you can replace them with new ones from Mother Deere.
