John Deere 2950 transmission

I have a JD 2950 and the transmission is starting to slip when your driving. We have already replaced the master cylinder a month ago and had been running good until the other day when it started slipping. We have checked the slave cylinder and there is no sign of a leak and moves about an inch when pushing on the clutch pedal. When I was replacing the seals on the 3pt there were two ball bearings in the bottom of the rear end with no marks or scratches on them the tractor still ran and shifted fine with out them. We didn't think it was a big deal until now, we think they might have come out of something important. Any ideas on fixing this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I would be installing gauges to check the transmission operating pressure and lube pressure. You did not say if it slips in high, low or both. How big were the balls that you recovered?

the transmission is slipping in high and low about the same amount. The balls that I recovered are 1/2"

That kinda points to the dry engine clutch, the only 1/2" ball I can think of is the surge relief valve and the 3pt rate of drop valve

This would be the time to go looking before things get worse. Odds are the dry traction clutch is worn, weak or has been oiled as previously stated.
Any indication that somebody has been previously inside ?

Actually it would be a "Good Time" to find some of those people that like these and sell it to them....

I would run away as fast as you can.
Like Tim said, you are gonna open up
something that will show every ugly
head it has. Patch it up and move on
to something else.

Geez I'd take a 50 or 55 series JD utility tractor with a slipping traction clutch or hi-lo over some of the later model trans, electrical or hyd nightmares
