John Deere M oil filter

The earlier post on the 420 oil filter got me wondering on how different the M filter was from the 420. When I looked it up in the parts manual I found parts key #23 was shown in the illustration but not in the parts list, in fact the key doesn't show any number above #16 other than #23. When I used the part # from the 420 parts list it shows up in the M index as a washer in the MC hydraulic control valve. Just for the record I think the washer is part of the newer oil filters anyway. Probably just a glitch but I found it interesting especially since I was aware of sealing plate #8 being discarded with the old filter a lot of times as they stick to it but not aware of washer #23. Bill;
The page is a misprint. The washer(23) was never there. The original pc194 doesn't have it. I don't have an original 420 parts book but I'll bet it wasn't there either. There is a (washer/boss) attached to the upper sealing plate. That gives you the same thickness washer on both sides of the spring. I've found several discrepancies between the original parts book and the revised version from 1963 over the years.

thanks, it was on the parts manual cd I bought from Deere a few years ago and on their website parts manual so I thought that it was real. Bill

In PC-194-(6-58)-15-8;15-9 the washer is shown as key #20, part # M 91 T, same as Key #4 in PC-848. Item # 23 in PC-848 looks like a washer. Key # 23 in PC-194 is the filter. Which is key # 7 in PC-194. I don't know how to upload pictures any more. When I try all that appears is the url but no pictures.
