Starting a 29 D

Still working on a new to me 29 D. Was able to get started by pulling it today and it seems to run very good. I have two questions. What is the "proper" procedure to hand start it? Primer cups? Choke? (How do you hold the choke and turn flywheel at the same time?). Starting retard setting on the mag?

Also, it seems to me like the #1 cylinder is easier to get thru the compression stroke that #2. I am going to get a compression tester to see what they are. What is a good compression for an unstyled D? Would it still run ok if one cylinder has less compression as it sure sounds ok.

thanks!

Matthew

I start my 29 holding the choke with my left hand and pushing down the front of the flywheel with the right hand. Only takes four or five turns and it is running.
