420 tractor engine filter

The new oil filter I purchased from Deere is a paper filter rather than metal like the old one. There were 2 paper pads with the old filter. Do I put new paper shims with the new filter? Operators manual shows the shims probably with metal filter.

there was a metal washer #8 that came with the tractor, they usually stick to the filter and get thrown out

My old filter was a metal wrap with no parts 4,5 & 6. Part 8 was thick paper on the metal filter. I am confused where to go from here.

4 ,5, and 6 should be held together by the bolt that goes through the canister. those parts have to be there to keep the oil flowing through the filter not bypassing it. Bill

You need those missing parts as Bill said.
No paper shims... those were on that off brand
metal filter.
The paper filter has paper ends. Right?

Sharps, Steiners, ebay, the shims are just a few bucks a piece.
