JD B Power lift

I have a 1946 JD B with a power lift. I recently added an aftermarket 3-pt hitch to use with my 5ft box blade. At times when I get a significant amount of dirt caught up in the box blade the power lift cannot lift the blade. I have parked the tractor for a couple days with the box blade in the fully elevated position and it won't settle to the ground for a couple days. This tells me the piston and seals are in good working condition and the power lift itself just isn't strong enough if it gets a good load on it. Anybody have thoughts on the power lift performance and integrity of the seals?

You might just be maxing out the power-lift. Compared to today's hydraulic systems that run 2000 psi, the power-lift only generates something like 750 psi. Plus, the further back the load is, the less it will lift. Deere did not recommend using a 3-point hitch on A's and B's due to the light front ends, but there are many A's and B's set up that way out there. They did approve them for the G, because it is heavier in the front.

Have you swapped out your power lift valve box for the one from a power troll ? If you do it will work much better being able to control the lift position instead of full up or full down.
I'd also check the pressure to see where it's at and adjust it accordingly.
