630 standard won't stay running....

I have a 1959 630 standard gas tractor. It's a solid tractor that came from Canada and all the lights even the dash work. The engine when it runs is stout and no oil smoke and or blow by. The tank was fuel of crud when I got it and the oil pressure fuel bowl needed attention. I have always heard bad things about these things and now I am a believer. I have cleaned the tank, installed new gasket on oil diaphragm, new bowl gasket and cleaned it out. Ran great long enough to get it out away from shop 200 yards and die... I pressed the scre on top of fuel bowl I could see gas coming down. Hit the switch and it cranked back up! Got on her and put in gear for it to die again... Waited 3 min tried and nothing,,, the tractor shows good oil pressure when running. I spent 30 min trying over and over to get it to run 5 feet then die. It has enough gas in the tank but it's like the oil pressure cannot keep the gas coming in even with new seals. Is the diaphragm suppose to pulsate or just open and close? Would a new spring be needed?
Thanks

I have found at times the small rubber sealing washer has stuck against the underside of the aluminum body and so even though the plunger is moving downward its not taking the seal with it and so the flow of gas is stopped. You stated that you saw gas coming into the sediment bowl when manually pushing the plunger after the first time it died, and then the tractor started but died again. Did you see gas flowing, or check with the line off at the carb, in your later attempts?

It's remotely possible the oil pressure line going to the fuel shutoff is plugged. Had a rogue piece of silicone plug the line on my 630. The silicone plugged it a little lower down where the line comes out of the crankcase so it didn't show any oil pressure at the gauge along with no oil pressure to the fuel shutoff. If all else fails pull the oil pressure line off the fuel shutoff body and crank the tractor over with the starter. If oil shoots out, and it probably will, you know you are getting pressure to the body.

Still have a issue with sediments binding the plunger or as stated
rubber O ring seal is sticking. CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN the whole bowl
remove & reinstall.

Slip a makeshift wedge between the gas tank and the plunger to hold the plunger down, then see if it will stay running. That will help you isolate the problem before you break out the wrenches.

Hey just wondering if this is the 630 standard that went through a sale recently in western canada.
If so I heard it was a real nice original one. A buddy of mine wanted to buy if who lives in ontario but couldnt get to the sale. I believe he said it didnt have three point hitch.
I agree with others in saying to hold down the round nut on top of the auto shut off. if you wedge something in there then the flow of gas should be constant.
to check this open the drain in the bottom of the carb and see if there is a constant flow of gas through the drain.
take the wedge out and see if the gas stops flowing out the carb bowl. Its just a process of elimination.

will try that thanks! I wonder if the spring that I stretched is too strong to push it open with oil pressure now. the reason I stretched it out is because it would not shutoff gas and had flooded the crankcase twice... I will try to order a new spring.
this tractor I picked up in Wisconsin but was from Canada sold there new and stayed there most of its life.

thanks

I BLOCKED the oil line (By Soldering) and use a short piece of rubber hose over the "primer Button" anytime I use the tractor..PLUS, I have a mechanical fuel shut-off as well..

NO more gas in the engine oil..!!

I don't like seeing raw gas shooting up into the rafters...(which HAS happened)...!!

Honestly while not original the simplest solution is to replace the the auto shut off bowl with an older manual one, I did that on my 51 AR and haven't had any problems since.

Update on 630 standard. After verifying the sediment bowl is letting gas thru when running I finally broke down and took the carb off. The inside of carb was clean, but I disassembled cleaned and put back together. I did find some old gunk in the round metal housing on top of carb and it was partially clogged. I installed a new needle and seat, reset the float to specs and reinstalled. One push of button it fired right up, ran about a minute then died again.... My frustration was setting in. I looked in tank and there was about 1 gal of gas left so I wondered if it weren't enough to push enough full through , so I put 5 gal of gas in today and it won't even hit a lick... I don't know if float is stuck or if the ignition is failing. Have never had ignition system run for a minute then stop all together. Is that possible or is it maybe too weak a spark to keep running or maybe a coil that is cutting out?? I am running out of ideas. Any imput?

A bad condenser can mimic fuel starvation on those two bangers. I have replaced several condensers on 630's and that cleared up the problem. Used to be I never had to replace a condenser but the reliability has gone out the window since they started making them in China.
