How to Remove This Line

4250 Powershift. Thinking this has to be where the sump screen is located. Got the line loose and the other line that is blocking it out of the way. But the front of the line where it goes into a port housing is causing it to bind up. Any tricks or will I have to pull that port housing down?

Well I managed to get it out. What a pain though. Lucking the screen was there, so removing that line wasn't completel in vain. I'm willing to bet that screen doesn't get cleaned very often on the powershifts--being the pain that it is. I doubt most guys know it's there. Pulled the screen and it was much cleaner than I thought it would be. Pic shows the debris that was in it. This is how it was straight out of the tractor. I circled the worst of the dirt and gunk. Cleaned it real good and put it all back.

You are supposed to remove the three bolts from the front housing and remove the housing with the pipe. So now go buy the oring for the rear of that pipe and the oring and gasket for the front of that pipe. Hopefully you didn't crack the front housing. Never knew it was that complicated.

Kinda harsh don't you think? I was just asking for a tip, not some wisecrack about how simple this is and how stupid I am for not automatically knowing. Not everyone on here is a professional mechanic who's 'done it' already. Sorry I asked.

And no I didn't crack the housing. I was simply hoping to avoid taking off yet another part to get to that line. Didn't want to break the seal on the gasket for the housing if it wasn't necessary. But I ended up removing two the bolts and loosening the 3rd to let the housing pivot enough to let the other end of the pipe come out. The o-ring end in the housing never came out of said housing. Sitting on the ground inside the wheel (with the jd step kit limiting front access) and oil dripping all over you, it's not so easy. So Bob, I concur I can see an older fella not being able to contort enough to get under there. Be better with the wheel of, but I wasn't about to do that.

I fail to see how matthies made a wisecrack but sometimes it's easy to upset people while trying to give assistance.

On another forum the other day I got accused of wisecracking from stating to a poster that purchasing a JD TLB with hyd problems that he repaired it relatively easy by my stating "buying an closed center hyd tractor that didn't operate correctly was taking a big chance and that he was very lucky". Poster thought I was ridiculing him which I didn't intend it that way.

It's nice to see a sump screen that clean on a tractor that old.
 
When they are all squeezed in for 30" rows it's a nasty place to get into.. What is going on that makes you think the screen was plugged??

Nothing specifically, just curious more than anything. I decided to change the hyd. oil and filters and thought it might be a good time to check the screen while all the fluid was out. I bought this tractor a couple years ago at auction and just didn't know when the last time it had been checked--or if ever.
 
I sorry but, really, if the piece isn't coming out and there is an obvious solution on the opposite end? Sorry again. chris
