Plugged small line to PTO hyd valve Steering everything works, went to local JD tried to get rebuild kit NA, new one said $1048. Wondering about going to a machine shop. What does everyone else do? Thanks for any help. Doug

Chances are it's not the valve, but the PTO brake seal leaking, does it get better when the clutch is engaged??

I think it might be a little better with clutch out but not much. Just pulled front pump out to replace seal. so will be a while before I can test it again. Is that price right for that valve? How much of a job to change that PTO brake seal? Thanks Doug

You will need to split it between the trans case and the clutch housing to service the PTO brake, and yes that sounds right for the price,Deere prices are sky high..

PTO will not stop, so could that be the problem? How can I check that brake seal out? Thanks Doug

If the valve linkage is adjusted properly it will not pressurize either port (clutch or brake) with the lever on the off position. Pull the lever back against the spring for brake but goes to neutral when you let it go. If it stays in brake all the time it could lead to problems with the idler gear that the brake pushes against. From what I get from your post, it is in brake all the time AND the o-ring is bad on the pto brake. hth

Your right just tried it and most of the time it goes all the way down. Once in a while it will stop at the line 2 inches up.

I've already told you in two previous posts to engage the pto then
depress the foot clutch to see if you lose hydraulics.
It's not uncommon on 4320s for pto brake oring to go bad.
You will have to split at the transmission to access toe pto brake.

Sorry for asking again but not as experienced as u and I appreciate your help. I adjusted the pto valve according to the book, I can engage pto or not still lose power steering either way. Only way to keep brake, power steering is to plug the 3/16 line to PTO valve. Thanks for any help. Doug

not familiar with your tractor but from what you describe the pto is dumping your pressure because of an internal leak, others have mention the pto brake ,try hooking an air hose to the fitting that you unhooked the line going to the pto valve from, then shift the valve and listen for an air leak you may be able to determine which position has the problem, if it will leak with that amount of pressure it will be worse with hyd pressure.

Try removing the pto valve again and apply air
pressure to those ports where the orings are.
You should have a rubber tipped nozzle to get
a seal.
Having a friend to turn the pto by hand would
help.
You should be able to hear the clutch engage
or see it if looking up through the cover hole
beneath the clutch housing while pressurizing
that port.
The brake port might cause a little drag on the
the shaft even if the brake is leaking. You might
be able to hear air leaking into the tran housing.
