JD 70 Power Steering Drain

So I want to change the power steering fluid out of my JD 70 diesel. Of course the service manual tells you to get the power steering manual for any issues dealing with power steering. I just want to drain/refill with new. Where do I go about draining the fluid from?

The drain is the hex plug facing forwards at the level of the lowest steel hydraulic line in the photo.

Since it is at that level, the oil in the vane steering motor is NOT drained, so a run with clean oil and another drain will help get rid of that old oil, if desired.

There is a plug right on the front of the front pedestal, down low, an inch or so above where the large mounting bolts are. You can't miss it if you look for it. I should mention that the power steering factory manual emphasizes that if you drain and change the fluid, DO NOT flush the system out. Just drain the old and refill with the new. If you have problems I can send you email pics from the factory power steering manual. Hugh.

In addition to what has been mentioned, the plug for your 70 may or may not have the extension. I have a 70 that does not have this hex extension which makes it a little harder to drain the oil. You can drain most of the vane oil by raising the front of the tractor, loosening the pressure lines to the vane housing and then turning the wheels. Be careful not to get a bath of oil. Mike

I did not have any issues, although the pics would be nice if they have any info on repacking the power steering valve!
