3020 questions

I looked at a 3020 diesel powershift tractor that is for sale. Two things that I have concerns about are: (first) when the shifter is moved to any of the forward or reverse gears, and the inching pedal is pushed down, there is a very slight creeping of the tractor until you press on the brakes. In trying to research this on the internet looks like could be anything from "that's normal" all the way to "warped disks in clutch packs and will need to rebuild the transmission". It does not creep in the neutral position and goes into park very easily. (second) to stop the engine you pull out on the end of the throttle lever and push it up past idle. That does not always work to kill the engine on this tractor. Is there linkage to the injection pump that can be adjusted?
Am impressed with the tractor otherwise.

Creeping in fwd or rev at the bottom of shift quadrant is normal but I think depressing inching pedal should stop the movement of tractor as depressing clutch is suppose to open the hyd circuit to trans. I think clutch valve may not be opening properly.

Look under dash at the throttle linkage tie rod assembly(parts key 21) for wear in the ball joints.

I have two ps 20 series and both will 'creep' to some degree. If the brakes are good and they hold it easily, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Let me ask you this. When you move the throttle lever back and forth slightly, does the steering column (#11 in Jims diagram) move in exact unison or is there quite a bit of slop? If so, next time it doesn't kill by overriding, grab the steering column and give it a counter-clockwise twist and if that kills the eng. then you know it's the slop in the throttle that is preventing full range of motion to your linkages.

I've had several steering columns that have needed to go to the machine shop as I can't stand a loose throttle lever. If you end up taking the column off, also check out the wear bushing at the base of the column (#12 above) and see if it is intact or needs replaced. You can tell when those get worn because the base of the column will flop around and that could be contributing to your issue as well. A new one will tighten up the column so it rotates nice and smooth with no lateral movement.

Thank you for the information. I plan to go back and do some more checking on the tractor. Will check about the steering column. The tractor is 50 years
old, so very likely things could be worn.
It doesn't take too much pressure on the brakes to stop the tractor with the inching pedal depressed. Not being acquainted with how a powershift is
supposed to act, and being told they are really expensive to repair had me concerned.
