John Deere R

I have a 1951 John Deere R. I just replaced the floor pan/deck and during reassembly of the shift lever I locked the tranny in gear. The shift lever is in the neutral slot in the forward position by first gear. It will not slide back. Rocking the tractor back and forth and pulling it with another tractor won't pop it free either. The tires just slide on the concrete while pulling it. Any suggestions on how to pop it free before I take everything apart. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Torey

There is no popping it free. Pull the cover, slide the gears to their neutral position, put the top back on and try it in all positions before you button it back up. Sure hope your popping efforts didn't bust anything inside.
