JD 70 Straight pip

Just a quick question, does anyone know if there are any adverse efects of putting a straight pipe on an JD 70 Diesel.

About the ONLY way you will actually HEAR that big engine bark..!!

They don't bark very loud anyway (unless it is really pulling hard)..

Won't hurt it at all..

Ha ha ha, funny. We always think about efects on the equipment, but forget to think about the human part of it. Guess me and the kids are gonna wear ear plugs!

When I was a kid,we had a G with a straight pipe. When I plowed or disked with it I could hear it pounding in my head for a half hour after I shut
it off. No wonder I have bad hearing today.

The original mufflers weren't that great. If it's a working tractor you could put a 730 muffler on it for a better sounding tone.

Only adverse effects will be to the operator's hearing and anyone else within 500+ feet. It's just about
impossible to make those old beasts quiet, why anyone would intentionally make them noisier is a mystery
to me!

Dad bought Me a JD R diesel to do fieldwork with spring of '64. My ears would ring for 4-5 hours after I
ran it all day.... And it had the factory muffler on it still in good shape. Didn't take long for that
miserable beast to go down the road and NOT come back!

I have the oval 730 muffler on mine & I've found him to announce his presence more than well enough! Most of the time it is sort of a shunk shunk shunk sound but you still know when he's working! It soon enough turns into a solid bark.

At night if pulled down to about 975 RPM (lights on or off) a drinking glass sized cone of dull orange appears out the top of the muffler and if I stand I can feel the exhaust pulsing in my chest. That's when I sit back down.

I've run him hard enough to put 1 and 3/4's tanks of fuel through it in a single day. Even after you clean up & go to bed you still hear it but I really doubt the straight pipe would damge the tractor.
