1070 JD tires

I have a question on tires. My neighbor has a 1070 JD tractor and it has turf tires on it. He wants to put R 1 tires on it and someone told him he has to change the rims also. I looked this tractor specks up and it only lists it as having one size rim for 2 WD and 4 WD. His is a 4 wheel drive so the ratio cannot change. Can't he just put ag tires on the rims he has using the same size tire? Thanks Ivan

Your neighbor will need different rims to use bar tires as I've never seen a 20'' bar tire that wide.

The overall height of the tires needs to stay the same measure from the ground
to the top , then go to firestone or titan web site and find a bar tire that
is the same height , as Jim said probably change wheels I don't know if
13.6x16 will work or maybe a small 24 . Good luck.

When I looked at the parts diagram for this tractor it showed that it should have a 13.6X28 rear tire. After reading Jims post I looked on the data spec sheet and it shows that it could have a 20 inch rear rim or a 13.6X28 rear tire. I will have to look at his. This tractor is useless with turf tires on it.

I've been there and done that a few times. From my advise your neighbor probably would like the R4 tires better. Bar will tear up yards big time. R4 adds the tractors with extra width. However he will have to buy rims and tires. I've seen a lot of those as a take off item on ebay. Rear expensive to buy separate.

How good are the R 4 tires in the mud? I had to pull him out a couple of times yesterday in his trail because he got stuck. He just brought this tractor up here from downstate and all he ever used it for was mowing a few acres of grass. He has owned it since new. He is talking about getting a new one and I told him to check out tires first. I may end up buying it if he does get a new one

Spinning tires on turf tears the turf up, makes NO DIFFERENCE if it's a turf or R1 tire spinning. I've been mowing my yard for the last 15 years with Firestone 23 degree lug tires on my garden tractors and have never torn the grass/yard up. With turf tires spinning I did a lot in some places.

A lugged tire just rolling over the turf does no damage.
