DEERE baler questions opinions???

In square balers what is the difference in 14t 24t and 214???? They all look a lot a like. I was around the 14 the most.

IIRC 14T & 214 were built in the same time frame with the 214 being higher capacity. 24T was the next model after 14T. I personally never liked 24T's because the plungerhead had 2 wear blocks attached to a bridge held to PH with a single bolt that when the bolt breaks the bridge(parts key 15) & 2 pads(parts key 16) are normally lost in the field. Sad part is there are 2 bridges & 4 pads per baler

The 14T (the "T" stands for twine) became the 214 ,,the 24 was a larger baler than the 14 and it became the 224, those models were then taken over by the 336/346 several improvements were made when they went to the 214/224 over the early models..and "major" improvements were made with the 336/346...

I'm fairly confident that the 14T & 214T/214W/214WS were built in the same time frame and the 24T & 224T/224WS were built in the same time frame but I've been wrong before. 214 & 224 being the higher capacity balers than the 14T & 24T. I found where 224 production started in '64

I never saw anything that would eat hay like a 116W on a WD-45...but, those are about gone..sure was a Fantastic Design..didn't cause any Drawbar or Transmission/Final-Drive wear...

Took very little storage space too..

You are correct, Jim. The 214 series balers, although introduced later than the 14T, were heavier duty balers. The 14T continued to be produced until around '63 or '64, (or thereabouts) when both were replaced by the 24 and 224. Mike

A little research shows the 14T was started in 1954, the 24T started in1962, the 214 started in 1957 and the 224 was started in 1964...So I was wrong about them running 14's and 24's at the same time as 2 different size machines in a line up...

May I ask what's your source for dates of manufacture?

(quoted from post at 01:08:34 04/14/15) We had a 224T. That thing was a magnificent, high capacity machine. I wish we still had it.

If a 224 had a wide pickup with close spaced teeth such as the later model JD sq baler I think it's baling capacity would be as good or better than the later balers.

I looked up the parts book on Deere .com, it went to a PDF (which is a copy of the actual parts book) in the first pictures of the machine it has the build dates..
