JD out in the woods

Most D John Deeres from that part of the country had extra wide rear wheels.
Perhaps the extensions were removed before parking.
Looks likeum it could do a days wyrk with a little tune up.
 
Actually there were NOT many tractors that had the widened steel wheels. There is a scraper that runs between the lugs to keep the mud from building up. Running another set of lugs would require another scraper set up. What was usually done was to weld a paddle extension on the outer set of lugs. We used a 6" grader blade cut about 4" wide.
Really nice to see the old D.....scrap buyers came thru and cut up 100's of these old tractors, who knew there would ever be a market for them. I knew a farmer that had over 20 old D's from the 20's, 30's, 40's, & 2 R's that were cut up in the 60's. I know at least 2 of the D's were spoke flywheels.
