I posted a couple of days ago about how one goes about changing one of the hydraulic hoses that is located INSIDE the lower boom. It was darn near impossible to get wrenches in there to disconnect the line. The lower end of the line was easy. Well here's what you have to do. If the machine is running, extend the back hoe out as far as you can it will allow you more space between the lower cylinder and the wall of the boom. You still won't be able to get standard open in wrenches in there because it's 1 1/8" and 1 1/4" nuts on the fitting. However, the cramped space will actually jam the 1 1/8" nut on the crimp, and then you can get a crescent wrench in there to turn the connector. I had to put a little heat and some penetrating oil on the fitting to get it off. But it's off. My neighbor has a Case and all his hoses are on the outside of the boom. So much easier for sure.

I'm late posting to you..sounds like you have it. I have a friend who worked on the service truck for JD.
I have a '72 310 and needed to change out the lines to feed the boom cylinder. This is what worked for me...I backed the machine to the highest
point in my yard, extended the outriggers, boom, dipper and bucket out and as far left as possible. I blocked the boom with cribbing, once all the weight was removed
we placed 2-3 foot 2x4's up inside the boom to support the cylinder and then drove the upper cylinder pin out. Started the machine, retracted the boom the cylinder rod in, and then drove out the lower cylinder pin. We then lifted the cylinder out. It was heavy. We ran the new lines from the line
manifold, screwed them right into the cylinder and then reversed the steps. It took us a little less than 2 hours...because it was our first time.
My son and his friend gave me a hand with the lifting...etc. I'm sure the 510 cylinder has more weight to it...

If I ever have to replace any more lines in the machine, I will definitely do that. This backhoe is a beast. Now I have to figure out why it isn't engaging in gear. This machine was parked on my property by a friend of a neighbor a more than a few years ago and I just move it around my property. It has seen better days in it's life, but I do use it for a few projects around the property. When I went to move it this last time. It would shift into gear, but the wheels weren't getting power. I tried to push it with the hoe and that's when the line sprung a leak. I am not sure if it has something to do with the "inch" pedal or the "transmission disconnect", but there is very little power to the wheels. If I lift the rear wheels with the stabilizers they turn, but if I drop it, they don't have enough power to push drive the tractor.

After making certain the screen and filters are clean. It's time to put the test gauges on the ports and measure pressure. Where and what is in the service manual.
