hen you depress the clutch the transmission stops turning and so does the charge pump, without the charge pump turning no hydraulic oil is pumped to main Hyd pump in the front of the tractor. No oil...no hydraulics. If the hydraulic system is in good shape with no internal leaks, shifting gears, changing direction,or feathering the clutch, will have no appreciable affect on the hydraulics. If you have an internal leak,(rockshaft valve, bad remote etc) you will quickly loose hydraulics when thee clutch is depressed.

Check your PTO lever is not stuck in the brake position. A leak in the PTO brake circuit will empty the front reservoir very rapidly.

If pto brake control valve was stuck in "brake on position" and leaking wouldn't oil robbed from frt pump by pto brake valve have to be running out clutch inspection cover at bottom of clutch housing or slung out of engine timing window???

My guess is an internal high pressure leak is depleting frt pump output. Does tractor have a FEL installed?

I had a similar issue with one of my 4020s. I determined the charge pump was bad. I removed rockshaft ect and when I got it apart the pump was fine as it must have been replaced not long before I bought it. But when the previous person installed the pipes that run from the pump they installed it wrong to where it rubbed on the trans case and wore through so all the oil that it was pumping a large portion of it was dumping right back to the sump. The pump was perfect but I replaced it any way because I am not going back in there any time soon.

My 4020 would loose the brakes and chatter if I held the clutch down very long. I will take my older 4020 PS any day over that tractor.

Here are the pictures of the tube. I'm saving it on my wall of broken parts.

An Internal leak could be my issue my 3pt will go down on its own, if you bump the lever it will come right back up.
