I am replacing the cylinder head finally on the old 435. Does anyone know if they used valve stem seals on these models? Also need to know if anyone knows where to find the head gasket set or oil seals used when installing head to block.

Go to the local detroit diesel dealer and order two cylinders worth of a high compression 4-53 N series two valve engine.
There are new updated heavier valve and cam follower springs. The cam will be worn, have it re-ground. Use C35 or C40 injectors. There is a engine lube oil seal update for the blower. Install a block heater instead of using ether.

LittleDan,

i dont have my service manual in front of me, but doesnt it say whether or not they have valve seals?

I don't have my manual with me this week. Guy installing valves for me asked the question. Hoped someone might know.

google 2-53 Detroit diesel specs, down next to the bottom of the page there is pdf file of a Detroit service manual, hope it has the info.

Thank you. I didn't have that manual. It answered my question about stem seals. Some four valve per cylinder larger engines had valve guides machined to accept a valve stem seal. But mine was not machined only chamfered and has no seal.
Still looking for head gasket/ oil seals.

Pretty sure when I did mine a few years back that I had them to install. I got the gaskets and all the parts to rebuild the engine from a place in Co but don't have the information about them with me this weekend.
