I need to repair the brakes on a 1954 JD model 40U. The manual says after removing all necessary parts like wheel, hub, fender, step. brake pedal and springs, then remove the four bolts holding the final drive ( part # AM 2243 T ) to trans housing- then slide the final drive off.
My question is, is it that simple? Will the final drive shaft, bull gear,
and bearings all remain in the final drive? Or do you have to remove the quill cover and the final drive shaft before removing the final drive case?
