A gentleman I know has a 720 D that has had issues of breaking the starter nose off. I have not seen the tractor or done any work to it so I don't have much more detail. I do know he said the noses were getting hard to find. He has put an ad in the classifieds looking for information (search in the province of Ontario) so you can deal direct, or post back here. He and I both thank you.

Timing is off. Happen to me. I messed with the timing and did the damage to it myself.
Starter shop was able to locate one for me and had them rebuild the starter while it was there. Tractor was cutting out and I thought it was timing, WRONG just needed plugs. costly mistake on my part.

It's an electric start diesel.

The electric start diesel requires a 13 tooth pinion. If a drive was installed with a different tooth count, the resulting improper mesh could cause the problem. I suggest that you also examine the starter mount for cracks, or possible miss-alignment caused by missing or sheared dowel pins.
