JD 70 all fuel

I am interested in buying a jd 70 all fuel w/ 6 1/8 bore. What do I need to know to determine the difference in a 70 all fuel w/ 6 1/8 bore or the regular w/ 5 7/8 bore.

I went to purchase a 70 AF. vendor played innocent about the gasser 70 block and head on the tractor and his selling the 70AF head and block to a tractor pulled. He was mad at me for noticing.

Block is AF1655R for the all fuel and AF3296 for gasoline and LP models. If everything is correct the intake/exhaust manifold is one piece on the all fuel and it should have a hood with a small fuel tank near the steering wheel. Many of the all fuels were fitted later in life with the two piece gasoline manifolds.

All fuel block could also have F1305R number on it . Gas /LP block could have F1213R, F2460R or AF1452R on it as well.

The cylinder head should be AF1511R or F1306R. Gas/LP head is AF1388R or F1215R.

BD I had the reverse happen. Went to look at a 70 gas and noticed an extra hole in the hood, but missing the small tank. The manifolds had been changed to the gasoline version. It has petcocks on it (??) and I hadn't seen that on a gas 70 before. The block and head are the original AF parts...it's a 1954 model with power steering which you don't see too often as many of the 70 AF's were made in 1953 and early 1954 before p/s became available.

Have you every put a "G" power block in a 70 all fuel ? Drill PB for the bolts on the side or just leave them out ?

According to the John Deere Tractor Data Book by Lorry Dunning;
the compression ratio of GAS 70's was 6.15:1, ALL-FUEL 4.60:1; LPG 7.30:1
Also, Production of GAS 70's was 17,043; ALL-FUEL 2,964; LPG 6,618 and Diesel 14,397.
Also, PTO/Belt Horsepower of GAS 70's was 50.4; ALL-FUEL 45.0 LPG not given; Diesel 51.5.
GAS 70's came with a DLTX-82 carburetor; ALL-GUEL DLTX-85.
Weight of GAS or ALL-FUEL 6,035 lbs. Diesel 6,510 lbs.

Kind of a rough old 70, but I liked it, reminded me of my "G".
